MAHIGIT sa 100 flights sa main gateway ng bansa ang maaapektuhan ng airspace shutdown sa Mayo 17, ayon sa Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).
“Based on our projection, there will be around 130 flights that could be possibly affected and based on the estimate passenger load, it will be around 20,000 passengers,” pahayag ni MIAA officer-in-charge Bryan Co.
Nauna rito ay inanunsiyo ng Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) na isasara ang airspace ng bansa simula hatinggabi hanggang alas-6 ng umaga ng Mayo 17 upang i-upgrade ang air traffic management system, kumpunihin ang automatic voltage regulator, at palitan ang uninterruptible power supply.
Tiniyak naman ng flag carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) sa mga pasahero na magpapatupad ito ng mga hakbang para matiyak na makararating sila sa kanilang mga pupuntahan.
“Under normal circumstances, we operate 18 international arrivals and departures. This does not include the domestic sector, so if you include the domestic sector, it would total around 38 to 40 flights,” pahayag ni PAL spokesperson Cielo Villaluna sa CNN Philippines’ The Source.
