Transportation Sec Arthur Tugade

NASA 17 commercial airport projects ang natapos na sa unang tatlong taon ng panunungkulan ni Pangulong Rodrigo Duterte, ayon sa Department of Transportation (DOTr).

Sa isang pahayag, binigyang-diin ni Transportation Sec. Arthur Tugade ang kahalagahan ng pagsusulong ng air connectivity sa buong bansa at sa mundo, kung saan nakumpleto na ng Aviation and Airports Sector at ng Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) ang 17 airport projects at may 28 pa ang isinasagawa, sa first half ng termino ni Duterte.

“Connectivity and mobility in transport are key components in socio-economic development. By building new airports and rehabilitating existing ones, the transportation sector contributes to both regional and national progress,” wika ni Tugade.

Ayon sa DOTr, sa first half ng termino ni Duterte, dalawang bagong international airports ang naitayo, ang  Lal-Lo International Airport sa Cagayan, at ang kauna-unahang eco-airport sa bansa, ang Bohol-Panglao International Airport.

Labinlimang iba pang umiiral na gateways ang na-upgrade na rin, dalawa sa mga ito ay international at 13 ang domestic.

Ang rehabilitated international airports ay kinabibilangan ng Mactan-Cebu International Airport (MCIA), itinuturing na world’s friendliest resort airport.  Binuksan nito ang bagong passenger terminal building nito noong nakaraang taon, na nagpalakas sa annual capacity ng airport sa 13.5 milyong pasahero.

Isinailalim din sa rehabilitasyon ang passenger terminal building ng Puerto Princesa Airport kung saan nilakihan ang runway nito upang ma-accommodate ang mas malalaking aircraft.

Para sa domestic airport, sinabi ng DOTr  na binuksan ang mga bagong pasilidad sa Ormoc Airport  noong Hulyo  5, kabilang ang renovated passenger terminal building at pinaluwag na runway.

Bukod dito, sinabi ng DOTr na natapos na rin ang infrastructure developments para sa domestic airports ng Virac, Marinduque, Tuguegarao, San Vicente, at Busuanga sa Luzon; Maasin, Tacloban, at Catarman sa Visayas; at Ipil, Camiguin, at Siargao sa Min­danao.

Dagdag pa ng ahensiya, kasama ang CAAP ay pinabibilis nito ang isinasagawang infrastructure development sa 27 commercial airports at isang military air base.  Nakatakda ring magtayo ang gobyerno ng isa pang international airport.

Patuloy naman ang rehabilitasyon sa Terminal 2 ng Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
