MAKARAANG i-host ang ASEAN Plus Chess Championship, muling papagitna ang Davao bilang venue sa 2019 National PRISAA (Private Schools Athletics Association), tampok ang mga atleta mula sa mahigit 40 colleges at universities.
Inaasahang susuportahan ni Presidente Rodrigo Duterte ang pinakamalaking private schools sports spectacle sa bansa.
Nakuha ng Davao ang hosting sa 2019 PRISAA meet mula sa Tagbilaran, Bohol kung saan ginawa ang 2018 edition. Ito ang pangalawang beses na gaganapin ang annual multi-event sports competition sa nasabing lungsod.
Ang PRISAA ay pinagmulan ng maraming national athletes, kabilang sina Hidilyn Diaz, Mona Sulaiman, Josephine de la Vina, Rogelio Onofre, at Mercedita Manipol.
Si Diaz ay nanalo ng pilak sa 2016 Brazil Olympics at dinomina ang Asian Weightlifting, ASEAN Weightlifting, Southeast Asian Games, at Asian Indoor Games at Martial Arts.
Samantala, si Sulaiman ay itinanghal na Asian Games at SEA Games ‘fastest woman’, habang si Onofre na tubong-Pangasinan ay naging sprint king at mortal na kalaban nina Malaysian sprinter Manny Jegatessan at Anat Ratanapul ng Thailand.
Ang Cebuana na si De la Vina ay itinanghal namang shot put at discuss throw queen sa SEA Games, at si Manipol na tubong-Romblon at kababayan ni track legend Elma Muros-Posadas ay naging kampeon sa SEA Games marathon at matagal na nadominahan ang local marathon.
“This year will be more exciting and interesting simply because the annual event will be held in Davao, and for sure, the president, a native of this city, will give his unequivocal support,” sabi ni PRISAA National Executive Director Prof. Elbert ‘Bong’ Atilano Sr.
Ang PRISAA ang tanging sports association na nagsasagawa ng annual sports competitions sa private school institutions sa buong bansa. Ito rin ang pinakamalaking sports association sa bansa na may mahigit 400 private colleges at universities.
“PRISAA envisions to be at the forefront of sports development for student-athletes of member schools who are expected to bring pride, honor, and prestige to the association and the country,” dagdag ni Atilano.
Kasama sa mga sports na lalaruin sa PRISAA ang athletics, swimming, badminton, basketball, baseball, beach volleyball, boxing, chess, dance sport, football, karatedo, sepak takraw, soft-ball, volleyball, table tennis, lawn tennis, taekwondo, at weightlifting. CLYDE MARIANO
