POSIBLENG sa Enero ng susunod na taon pa magsimula ang 2020-21 NBA season, pahayag ni commissioner Adam Silver sa isang panel discussion sa CNN.
Ayon kay Silver, ang kanyang pagtaya ay base sa feedback mula kay Dr. Anthony Fauci, ang director ng National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases.
Target sana ng liga na simulan ang bagong season sa Christmas Day – ang araw na ito ay isang annual festival ng games para sa fans — subalit mukhang hindi ito mangyayari.
“My best guess is even though it’ll be the 2020-21 season, that the season won’t start until 2021,” ani Silver.
Gayunman, wala pa ring katiyakan ang lahat hanggang walang bakuna sa COVID-19 at patuloy na kumakalat ang coronavirus sa Estados Unidos, ayon kay Silver.
Sa kabila ng kawalan ng katiyakan, ang target ng liga ay makapagdaos ng 82-game regular season, sa home arenas, na may ilang nanonood na fans.
“There’s still a lot that we need to learn in terms of rapid testing, for example. Would that be a means for getting fans into our buildings?” ani Silver. “Would there be other protections from the things that we are learning in Orlando currently on the campus down there?
“And clearly learning from a lot of other sports with what baseball is currently doing and what football is doing and what college sports have begun playing. There is a lot of new information in the marketplace that we have begun looking at. But the goal is to play a standard season.”
