WALANG Pinoy na nakasama sa 41 katao na nasawi dahil sa malaking pagbaha matapos manalasa ang Hurricane Ida sa New York at New Jersey nitong madaling araw ng Huwebes.
Ayon ito sa ipinarating na abiso ng Philippine Consulate sa New York sa Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA).
Sinabi ng DFA, nasa 236,000 bilang ng mga Filipino Americans ang nakatira sa New York, samantalang sa New Jersey ay nasa 280,000.
Lumalabas sa report, matindi ang pagbaha New York City dahilan upang mag-shut down ang operasyon dahil inabot ng tubig baha ang mga riles at inabot ng tatlong inches ang baha sa Manhattan restaurant.
Kinansela rin ang daan-daang biyahe ng mga eroplano sa La Guardia at KFK airports, sinalanta rin ni Hurricane Ida ang mga gusali at higit sa milyong kabahayan ang walang supply ng koryente.
Nabatid na 12 katao ang nasawi sa New York, na ayon sa pulisya ang 11 dito ay hindi nakalabas ng kanilang basement at na-trap sila ng baha at ang mga biktima ay nasa edad na 2 hanggang 86-taong gulang.
Pahayag naman ni US President Joe Biden, handang umayuda ang gobyerno sa naapektuhan ng naturang malakas na bagyo.
“We’re all in this together. The nation is ready to help,” ayo ito kay Biden.
Bukod sa New York, binaha rin ang New Jersey at nabatid sa gobernador nito na si Phil Murphy,b 23 katao ang nasawi rito.
Ayon kay Murphy, karamihan sa mga nasawi ay mga naabutan ng malakas na tubig baha sa kanilang mga sasakayan.
Tatlo katao pa ang nasawi sa New York suburb of Westchester, samantalang tatlo rin sa Montgomery County.
