5% DAGDAG NA TARIPA SA LAHAT NG IMPORTS, PONDO GAGAMITIN SA COVID-19 RESPONSE

ISINUSULONG ng Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) ang pagpapataw ng dagdag na 5-percent tariff sa lahat ng imports sa layuning makalikom ng pondo para sa COVID-19 response ng pamahalaan.

Ayon kay DTI Undersecretary Ceferino Rodolfo, inaasahang nasa PHP245 billion ang malilikom sa pagpapataw ng karagdagang 5-percent tariff across-the-board base sa average import value ng bansa mula 2016 hanggang 2018.

Subalit inamin ni Rodolfo na may agam-agam sa panukala, kabilang ang commitments sa international trade agreements at ang epekto ng dagdag sa inflation.

“We will put (a) 5-percent tariff on all products so we can’t be accused as protectionist. We are not targeting any products to be protected. It’s really across-the-board because we really need to raise money for our Covid-related activities,” aniya.

Dagdag pa niya, ang ibang bansa ay nagpatupad pa ng export bans sa mga  critical product sa panahon ng pandemya.

“Some of our trading partners, their approach is (an) export ban. So they deprive other countries of capabilities, they deprive partners of their countries’ capability [for] critical products that partners also need. We did not do that.”
