NAGPAHIWATIG si Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Governor Benjamin Diokno na bababa pa ang interest rate dahil sa inaasahang pagbagal ng inflation ngayong taon.

Sa bi-weekly GBED Talks sa Maynila, sinabi ni Diokno na kinokonsidera pa ng monetary authorities ang 50-basis points reduction sa key policy rates ngayong taon.

“It looks like petroleum prices will continue to go down. Food prices, rice especially, will continue to go down,” anang BSP chief.

Noong 2019, tatlong beses na ibinaba ng Monetary Board ang interest rate para sa kabuuang 75 basis points makaraang magkaroon ng pagtaas noong 2018 nang bumilis ang inflation rate sa years-high.

“In 2018, we raised interest rates by 175 basis points.  We have already cut by 75 basis points and we still have a long way to unwind, so that’s it,” wika ni Diokno.

Inulit din ng central bank chief ang kanilang pangako na luluwagan ang reserve requirement ratio ng bangko sa single digit hanggang sa pagtatapos ng kanyang termino sa 2023.
