BUKAS  ang pinto ng Pilipinas para tumanggap at kupkupin ang unang Afghan refugees na tumakas mula sa kamay ng mga Taliban.

Ito ang kinumpirma ni Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr., sa kanyang official tweet.

Ayon kay Locsin, tatanggapin ang unang Afghan refugees matapos mapunta sa kamay ng mga Taliban ang Afghanistan nitong nakalipas lamang na tatlong linggo.

Bukas aniya ang Pilipinas sa Afghan nationals kabilang ang mga babae at kabataan para kupkupin ang mga ito lalo na sa mga naging biktima ng karahasan at pang-aabuso.

“We stay steady where others waver: tonight we welcome Afghan nationals including women & kids seeking refuge. Our doors are open to those fleeing, conflict, persecution, sexual abuse and death. The matter is closed. We’re not interested in publicity or thanks. This is done so one can look at himself in the mirror. Period”, pahayag ni Locsin sa kanyang tweet.

Matatandaan na nitong nakaraang Agosto 17, sinabi ng Malacanang na bukas ang bansa na tanggapin ang Afghan nationals na nais tumakas mula sa kamay ng mga Taliban.

Sabi pa ni Locsin wala pa aniyang tiyak na quota para sa bilang ng mga refugee na posibleng dalhin sa Pilipinas, ngunit nilinaw nito na ang tatanggapin lamang ay ‘yung sa government to government basis.

Hindi aniya ie-entertain ang anumang kahilingan para sa asylum mula sa NGOs o mula sa non-state parties.
