TINATAYANG magiging maliit lamang – isang porsiyento – ang ilalago ng farm output sa first quarter ng taon dahil sa ‘seasonality’ at high base reference.
Ayon kay Agriculture Secretary Emmanuel F. Piñol, umaasa siya na ang halaga ng agriculture production sa January-to-March period ay bahagyang aangat sa gitna ng mataas na presyo ng mga produktong pang-agrikultura.
“We expect a modest growth in the first quarter for agriculture, especially since prices of agricultural commodities have really improved,” wika ni Piñol.
“I always believe that profitability is the best motivation for productivitiy.”
Ani Piñol, ang crops subsector, na karaniwang bumubuo sa mahigit kalahati ng total agricultural output, ay mananatiling driver para sa inaasahang one-percent growth.
“For the first quarter we are expecting about a one percent growth over last year’s growth,” aniya. “I’m actually expecting greater growth towards the end of the year mainly because of the very good prices of agriculture commodities.”
Sinabi pa ng kalihim na ang iba pang subsectors, kabilang ang livestock, poultry at fisheries, ay magtatala ng pagtaas sa first quarter.
“For hogs sector, they are enjoying good prices right now, in fact our production is slightly insufficient to meet the growing demand,” ani Piñol. JASPER ARCALAS
