SOGIE BILL WHAT?
S.O.G.I.E. stands for Sexual Orientation and Gender Identity and Expression Equality bill. Karapatan. Equality. Patas. Iyan ang kanilang ipinaglalaban. Pero patas para kanino? Naalala ko tuloy ang guiding principle nang minsan kong sinalihan na Rotary: “Is it fair to ALL concerned?”
Sa 17th Congress or House Bill No. 4982 noong 2017, ito ay inisponsor ng ilang kongresista at party- list representatives at tinaguriang a historic pro-LGBT move from the House of Representatives.
All in all, out of the existing 24 Senate seats: 12 seats support and can vote on the bill; 1 seat supports but cannot vote on the bill; 4 seats oppose and can vote on the bill; 5 seats can vote on the bill but have not yet given their positions. For a bill to pass the Senate, it needs a vote of 50% (12) of the body, plus one (1) vote for a total of thirteen (13) votes.
MGA KUMOKONTRA
“What happens to a Christian like me and to the majority of people in this August chamber if we are to be threatened with punishment every time we share our Bible-based beliefs on matters of transgenders and homosexuals?” ayon sa isang Kristiyanong kongresista.
In March 2018, another group of Christians protested at the Senate against the SOGIE bill by calling the proposed legislation an abomination, adding that homosexuality is allegedly a ‘sin’ because it is supposedly written in the Bible. The group also claimed that the bill relates to same-sex marriage which is not explained within the bill.
Under the SOGIE Equality Bill, promoting and encouraging stigma on the basis of SOGIE in the media, in educational textbooks, and other medium is considered a discriminatory practice and penalized.
TOTOO NGA BA?
Na kapag naipasa ang SOGIE Bill ay:
- The penalty for acts of discrimination ranges from a fine of P100,000 to P500,000 and imprisonment from 1 year to 6 years.
- The penalty for graver discriminatory acts is a fine of P250,000 to P500,000 and/or imprisonment from 6 to 12 years.
- The SOGIE bill penalizes schools for refusing admission or expelling a person on the basis of their sexuality.
- Using wrong pronouns, like Mister or Miss can also mean jail time for everyone who would commit it.
- Single-sex exclusive schools will be penalized for refusing to admit opposite-sex applicants who identify as the gender of the school’s population.
- Biological males who identify themselves as females will now be able to enter female-only facilities, such as female locker rooms and toilets.
- Businesses will be forced to violate their moral and religious convictions as they will be forced to hire applicants who practice certain LGBT behaviors that are contrary to the company’s values.
- Parents can be jailed for rearing their children according to their own faith and values.
- It is discrimination, if employers enforce a strict dress code for men and women.
- Will this bill force people to ignore basic biology, and instead, conform to an ideology that is based on feelings and pseudo-science?
