ANOTHER PHILIPPINE PRIDE: THE COUNTRY’S PREMIER SAXOPHONIST, COMPOSE & VOCALIST

DIREK LINE

In the Philippines, only excellent singers can be popular but instrumentalists are seldom recognized. As far as my memory takes me, it’s only John Lesaca, the Violin Maestro who had his name etched in the Philippine Music Industry.  Others just stayed behind the scenes.

One musician who is excellent to his craft who is worth mentioning is the country’s premier saxophonist, John Ray. He does not only play the saxophone with enough ease but he is also a composer and vocalist. Wearing three hats at the same time, John Ray has recently partnered with Star Music for an all-instrumental OPM album with its first carrier single, “ Hanggang” originally performed by Wency Cornejo. He also has his own independent album and introduced an instrumental single called “Brother Bonnie” which helped him make himself known in the international market. All his compositions cater not only to the adults type of music but also to the millennials.

John Ray used to be a member of Nyoy Volante’s band, JAMS. At some point, he was also part of the bar tour of Nina The Soul Siren. During his stint with Nyoy, he graced the jingles of PLDT, Manila Bulletin and the “Biyahe na Tayo” jingle of the Department of Tourism and Smart Communications.

John Ray already did major shows in other countries with Wency Cornejo and Ara Mina. This saxophonist with numerous is an addition to the list of “Pride of the Philippines” musicians.
