(Aprub na sa Kamara) DAGDAG-BENEPISYO SA LINE WORKERS

APRUBADO na sa ikatlo at huling pagbasa sa Kamara ang dalawang panukala na naglalayong palakasin ang working conditions ng mga manggagawa sa power utility industry.

Sa 225 affirmative votes, inaprubahan ng Mababang Kapulungan ng Kongreso ang House Bill 9524, o ang panukalang Line Worker Insurance and Benefits Act na magkakaloob ng insurance coverage at dagdag na benepisyo sa mga line worker.

Sa ilalim ng panukala, ang lahat ng line workers ay tatanggap ng life at accident o disability insurance benefits.

Ang minimum insurance coverage ay mula  PHP200,000 hanggang PHP1 million para sa distribution utilities, habang ang minimum insurance coverage para sa transmission o grid operator ay nasa PHP2 million.

Ang insurance premium payments ay babalikatin ng employer.

“In addition to the mandated insurance coverage, the employers of line workers shall also ensure the provision of retirement benefits, mortuary assistance, disability benefits, reimbursement of actual medical expenses in cases of death, accident, sickness, disability, or injury sustained by the line worker in the line of duty,” nakasaad pa sa panukala.

Samantala, isinusulong naman sa HB 9489 ang pagdedeklara sa unang Lunes ng Agosto kada taon bilang National Linemen Appreciation Day, bilang pagkilala sa pagsisikap ng mga utility line worker.

Ang bill ay nakakuha rin ng 225 affirmative votes.

Kinikilala ng panukala ang papel na ginagampanan ng electrical line workers “in the quest for sustainable rural development through total electrification of the countryside and appreciates the contribution” of line workers in nation-building.” PNA
