PUMALO ang utang ng Pilipinas sa bagong record-high na P11.642 trillion hanggang noong Agosto, ayon sa Bureau of the Treasury (BTr).

Ito’y sa likod ng pagdaragdag ng pondo ng pamahalaan sa gitna ng nagpapatuloy na COVID-19 pandemic.

Sa datos ng BTr, ang outstanding debt ng pamahalaan ay tumaas ng 0.28% o P32.05 billion mula sa P11.61 trillion na naitala noong July 2021.

Year-on-year, ang debt balance ay tumaas ng 21.1% mula P9.615 trillion hanggang noong August 2020.

Year-to-date, ang total outstanding debt ay lumobo ng P1.847 trillion o ng 18.9%.

Ang pagtaas, ayon sa Treasury, ay sanhi ng paglobo sa domestic debt issuance bilang bahagi ng government financing.

Sa total debt stock, 29.4% ang nagmula sa overseas habang 70.6% ang domestic debt.

Nauna nang idinepensa ni Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III ang paglobo ng utang ng bansa, na inaasahang papalo sa internationally recommended threshold na 60% proportion ng gross domestic product sa 2022.

“I would like to emphasize again that the increase in our debt level is only temporary. It did not stem from profligate public spending, but rather resulted from a universal shock that deteriorated the financial positions of almost all countries around the world,” pahayag ni Dominguez sa House budget deliberation sa panukalang P5.024 trillion national budget para sa 2022.
