NANG magsimula ang programang pagbabakuna ng bansa, hindi agad isinama ang mga kabataan na may edad 17 pababa sa mga indibidwal na kwalipikadong makatanggap ng bakuna.

Ito ay dahil sa mga karagdagang pagsasaliksik at pagsusuring kinakailangan pang gawin upang makasiguro na walang masamang epekto ang bakuna sa mga ito. Bagaman noong Hunyo ay inaprubahan na ng Philippine Food and Drug Administration (FDA) ang Emergency Use Authorization (EUA) ng Pfizer-BioNTech para sa nasabing age group, hindi pa rin sinimulan ang pagbabakuna sa mga ito.

Sa paliwanag ni Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, sa kabila ng pahintulot na ibinigay ng FDA sa Pfizer-BioNTech, hindi agarang maisasama ang mga kabataan sa mga prayoridad na mabigyan ng bakuna dahil sa limitadong supply nito noong mga nakaraang buwan. Dahil dito, sinunod ng Department of Health (DOH) ang nauna na nitong sistema sa pagsasaayos ng prayoridad ng mga grupong bibigyan ng bakuna.

Subalit sa paglipas ng mga buwan ay tila mas naging madalas ang pagpasok ng mga dosis ng bakuna sa bansa. Ayon kay vaccine czar Carlito Galvez, Jr., ang kasalukuyang supply ng bakuna sa bansa ay maaari pang umabot hanggang Oktubre. Tinatayang nasa 23.75 milyong dosis ang hawak ng bansa at may inaasahan pang karagdagang 20 milyong dosis na nakatakdang dumating sa unang linggo ng Oktubre.

Ayon kay Galvez, tinatayang nasa 400,000 hanggang 500,000 na bakuna ang naipamamahagi kada araw. Bagaman wala pang desisyon ukol sa usapin, pinaghahandaan na ito ng National Task Force (NTF) katulong ang Metro Manila Development Authority (MMDA), at ang mga mayor ng bawat lungsod upang masiguro ang kaayusan at kaligtasan ng mga kabataan habang nagpapabakuna.

Sa kasalukuyan, ayon kay Galvez hindi bababa sa 19 milyong Pilipino ang nakakumpleto na ng bakuna, habang hindi bababa sa 23.1 milyon naman ang naghihintay ng ikalawang dosis. Mula sa datos noong ika-24 ng Setyembre, sa kabuuang bilang na 66,699,340 milyong dosis ng bakuna sa bansa, higit 43 milyong dosis na ang naipamahagi ng pamahalaan.
