GAGABAYAN ni Tab Baldwin ang Gilas Pilipinas team na sasabak sa dalawang krusyal na kumpetisyon ngayong buwan.
Inanunsiyo ng Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) na ang American-Kiwi mentor ang magiging head coach ng nationals sa final window ng 2021 FIBA Asia Cup Qualifiers at sa FIBA OQT.
Tinanggap ng 63-anyos na si Baldwin, na siya ring program director ng SBP, ang oportunidad na muling gabayan ang mga Pinoy matapos na maging coach nito dati.
“I have accepted the opportunity and the challenge to be Gilas’ head coach at this time. I am honored to continue working with this outstanding coaching staff as we strive to take these next steps forward in the direction we envision for 2023,” aniya.
“I’m hoping that my international coaching experience and familiarity with our playing systems will be an additional asset to the team in the upcoming challenges the team is facing.”
Makaraang maging coach sa maraming bansa tulad ng New Zealand, Lebanon, at Jordan, itinalaga siya bilang head coach ng PH team noong 2014, kapalit ni Chot Reyes.
Matapos nito ay dinala niya ang kanyang talento sa collegiate basketball, kung saan iginiya niya ang Ateneo de Manila University sa tatlong UAAP titles, tampok ang 16-0 sweep ng Season 82.
Si Baldwin ang magiging ikatlong coach na hahawak sa Gilas program sa Qualifiers na ito matapos nina Mark Dickel sa first window at Jong Uichico sa second.
Kumpiyansa si Baldwin sa mga talento na mayroon siya sa pool, sa pangunguna nina Angelo Kouame, Dwight Ramos, Isaac Go, at Kai Sotto.
“The players are responding very well to the system and to each other. Bumps along the road are inevitable due to their youth and relative lack of experience, but these could be double-edged swords too,” aniya.
