NABABAHALA ang ilang highland vegetable producers sa Benguet sa pagkalat ng smuggled carrots sa mga pamilihan sa Metro Manila.
Ipinagtataka ng Highland Vegetable Multipurpose Cooperative kung saan nanggagaling ang mga naglalakihang carrot sa Divisoria, Manila gayong katamtaman lang naman ang laki ng local carrots.
Bagaman inalerto na nila ang Department of Agriculture (DA) noon pang Agosto hinggil sa imported crops, nilinaw ng Bureau of Plant Industry (BPI) na hindi naman sila nag-isyu ng anumang import permit para sa nasabing gulay.
Napag-alaman ng kooperatiba na may ilang maliliit na warehouse malapit sa Divisoria ang naglalabas umano ng imported vegetables upang ibagsak sa ilang pamilihan sa Metro Manila tuwing tumataas ang presyo ng gulay sa Benguet.
Samantala, inabisuhan na rin ng vegetable traders sa Cebu ang mga kooperatiba sa Benguet na apat na container vans na kargado ng carrots mula China ang nagbabagsak sa kanilang mga pamilihan kada linggo. DWIZ 882
