“This is two years in the making. I think, it’s really important to stay for the moment. To celebrate the culmination of the two years of hard work of Jerrold and all of us,” ani Benjamin.
“Again, I’ll be honest. Nahihirapan ako. Excited na po of what’s gonna happen in the next few years. Again, it’s also important to celebrate what’s happening now especially that we are showing a movie of this scope and then maybe, I can think about it later,” sey niya.
“Six years ago when I read for this, that was the original plan. But without giving away too much, with Goyo, hopefully people will understand how they are writing the next script again. Very extensive po kasi ang Goyo. He died when he was 24. Manuel L. Quezon is quite extensive kasi he lived a full life. He died of tuberculosis at a very old age,” paliwanag niya.
“In Heneral Luna, Quezon was shaking hands with Aguinaldo. There’s also this association of Aguinaldo that you’re gonna see the human side of Aguinaldo. Part of that involves Quezon. A big part of that is Quezon to show the very human side of Aguinaldo,” esplika niya.
“We’re also very honored to be ones telling the human side of these heroes that after Heneral Luna, people appreciate them on a much more human level and that’s what they’re trying to do with Goyo again and hopefully Quezon. That’s also the magic of Jerrold naman, of the way he writes his characters. He brings the human aspect of a hero in anything that he writes.
“Sa “Heneral Luna”, I only had a piece of paper for the script but the research materials na ibinigay sa akin ni Direk is very thick. You could see how generous Direk Jerrold is in giving us research materials. How extensive he reads for his characters. Six years ago, he has also researched for Quezon. Then, may foresight na siya about all the heroes that he wants to do in his film,” bulalas niya.
“I don’t know what to say about that. I think, he’s still our national hero and that should be respected, regardless kung naging tuta ba siya ng mga Kano o hindi. The goal of the movie is not to take sides. It’s to present Quezon as a human with a human side with his share of flaws and imperfections. We presented Heneral Luna that way.
“That’s not for me and Julie Anne to decide,” sey niya. “Yes, I wanna work with her pero ayoko namang i-push. I could always work naman with Julie somewhere else,” pagwawakas niya.
