MULING pinanatili ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) ang policy interest rates sa record low bilang patuloy na suporta sa pagbangon ng ekonomiya mula sa epekto ng pandemya.
Ayon kay BSP Governor Benjamin Diokno, nagpasiya ang Monetary Board na panatilihin ang key interest rate sa 2 percent, na pinakamababa sa record, at nasa antas na ito magmula pa noong Nobyembre ng nakaraang taon.
Ang policy interest rate ang nagsisilbing gabay sa pautang ng mga bangko at iba pang lending firms.
Nanatili rin ang interest rates sa overnight deposit at lending facilities sa 1.5 percent at 2.5 percent, ayon sa pagkakasunod.
Ito ang ika-6 na sunod na policy meeting na pinanatili ng central bank ang rates sa pagsisikap na suportahan ang pagbangon ng ekonomiya sa gitna ng patuloy na pananalasa ng COVID-19 pandemic.
“The Monetary Board remains keen on sustaining monetary policy support for as long as necessary in order for the momentum of economic recovery to gain more traction as well as to help boost domestic demand and market confidence, especially as risk aversion continues to temper credit activity,” ani Diokno.
Matapos ang limang sunod na quarters sa negative territory, ang Philippine economy ay nagtala ng 11.8 porsiyentong paglago sa second quarter ng taon.
Tinaasan ng BSP ang inflation outlook nito sa 4.1 percent ngayong taon mula sa naunang pagtaya na 4.0 percent. Itinaas din ng central bank ang outlook nito para sa 2022 at 2023 sa 3.1 percent mula sa 3.0 percent
“Latest inflation forecasts have shifted marginally higher, reflecting the recent increase in global commodity prices and the depreciation of the peso,” sabi ni Diokno.
