MAGSASAGAWA ang Billiards and Snooker Congress of the Philippines (BSCP) ng malawakang grassroots programs para makatuklas na mga batang may potensiyal na katawanin ang bansa sa mga darating na international competitions.
“The main thrust of the association under the leadership of Atty. Ramon Malinao is to strengthen and widen the scope in search for fresh talents by way of conducting tournaments in the countryside,” sabi ni BSCP secretary-general Robert Mananquil.
“Billiards needs young fresh talents in the calibers of Efren ‘Bata’ Reyes, Francisco ‘Django’ Bustamante, Dennis Orcollo, Carlo Biado, Rubkilyn Amit and Chezka Centeno. We can only realize this through honest to goodness nationwide grassroots programs,” pahayag ni Mananquil.
Ayon kay Mananquil, si Centeno ay natuklasan sa Zamboanga sa pamamagitan ng programang ‘search for young talents’.
Si Centeno ay nakapag-uwi na ng maraming karangalan sa bansa, ang pinakahuli ay sa 29th Southeast Asian Games sa Malaysia kung saan nanalo siya ng ginto, kasama si Viado at ang Cebuanang si Amit.
“We have to preserve the lofty credential of billiards as certified achiever in international arena like the SEA Games, Asian Games, World Billiards and other high level international competitions,” dagdag pa ni Mananquil.
Hindi kasama ang billiards sa Asian Games na lalarga sa Agosto sa Indonesia.
“I feel sad because billiards is not included in the Asian Games. Our players cannot help the Philippines in the medal campaign,” sambit ni Mananquil.
Ang billiards ay kasama sa 10 priority sports ng Philippine Sports Commission na pinamumunuan ni Chairman William ‘Butch’ Ramirez. CLYDE MARIANO
