SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go has teamed up with Mayor Edward Quilala to assist displaced workers in Currimao, Ilocos Norte on Monday, October 14, ensuring that they receive the necessary support in their time of need.
Go emphasized the need for continuous collaboration to improve the conditions of disadvantaged and displaced workers, particularly those in rural areas where economic opportunities can be limited.
“Ang layunin natin ay makapagbigay ng sapat na suporta para masiguro na ang ating mga kababayan ay magkakaroon ng mas magandang kinabukasan,” Go stated.
As part of his commitment to improving rural livelihoods, Go introduced Senate Bill No. 420, which seeks to establish the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP) under the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE). This program, if enacted, will provide temporary employment opportunities to eligible individuals from low-income households in rural areas, addressing the urgent need for economic support in these regions.
To further ease the financial burden on Filipino families, Go also co-authored and co-sponsored SBN 2534, which aims to raise the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide.
Go’s Malasakit Team organized a relief operation at the Ernesto G. Go Mega Complex, distributing snacks, vitamins, masks, shirts, volleyballs, and basketballs to 98 displaced workers. There were also select recipients of shoes and a mobile phone.
The workers also became eligible for livelihood assistance through the DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program, which provides temporary employment to individuals affected by economic challenges.
“Ako naman bilang inyong Mr. Malasakit Kuya Bong Go, magseserbisyo ako sa inyong lahat sa abot ng aking makakaya dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo. Magtulungan tayo upang ilapit ang serbisyo ng gobyerno sa mga Pilipinong pinakanangangailangan,” ended Go.
