BONG GO ASSISTS DISPLACED WORKERS AND INDIGENT RESIDENTS IN HIS VISIT TO PUERTO PRINCESA CITY, PALAWAN TO BRING PUBLIC SERVICES CLOSER TO THOSE IN NEED

Senator Christopher “Bong” Go provided assistance to displaced workers and impoverished residents in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan on Thursday, June 27.

True to his reputation as “Mr. Malasakit,” Go, an adopted son of Puerto Princesa City, distributed food packs, snacks, vitamins, masks, shirts, basketballs, and volleyballs for around 3,000 residents while there were select recipients of shoes, bikes, watches, and phones from Go. The distribution activity took place at Balayong People’s Park, Puerto Princesa.

Through Go’s support, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) then conducted an orientation for 1,000 qualified displaced workers, introducing them to the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program. This program supported by Senator Go aims to offer temporary employment to the qualified beneficiaries.

“Mahirap po ang panahon ngayon, marami pang apektado na hindi pa nakakabalik sa trabaho. Palakpakan natin ang ating DOLE sa programang TUPAD,” he highlighted.

To better support Filipino workers impacted by crises and to provide for those in rural areas facing a scarcity of employment opportunities, Go introduced Senate Bill No. 420. This proposed legislation aims to establish the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP) to provide temporary jobs to qualified individuals from low-income rural families, who are prepared to engage in unskilled manual labor for a certain duration.

Additionally, 2,000 impoverished residents present also received financial support from the local government through the collaboration of Senator Go and Mayor Lucilo Bayron.

“Prayoridad ko ang pagsuporta sa pro-poor programs at dapat po ay sikapin ng gobyerno na walang magutom na Pilipino. ‘Yan po ang pakiusap ko parati sa kapwa ko lingkod bayan—to provide substantial aid and services to those in need,” Go expressed.

During the said event, Go saw three-year old patient, Rylie Clintt Frias who was diagnosed with Congenital Hearing Loss. Go then assured his parents that he will help him with his medical needs, especially for his Bilateral Cochlear implant surgery. His parents personally thanked the senator for his unwavering support to help the Filipinos in need like them.

As Vice Chair of the Senate Committee on Finance, Go supported projects in Puerto Princesa City, such as the installation of Solar Street Lights in Rural Areas in the city. He proudly mentioned that one of his key advocacies is strengthening the development and the establishment of more facilities for the Filipino people.

Moreover, Go praised the efforts of the local officials of Puerto Princesa City, led by Mayor Lucilo Bayron, Councilor Raine Bayron, and Councilor Elgin Robert Damasco, among others, for their commitment to ensuring their constituents are well-supported. Go then encouraged them to sustain their efforts for the continued growth and development of Puerto Princesa City and the entire province of Palawan.

Councilor Raine Bayron also thanked the Senator, “Noon pa man hanggang ngayon, hindi niya (Senator Go) tayo kinalimutan. Kaya maraming salamat po, Senator Bong Go sa inyong walang sawa pagtulong sa Puerto Princesa.”

As the Chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health, Go reminded Filipinos to focus on their health as he emphasized the importance of the Malasakit Centers program, which he initiated to ensure disadvantaged Filipinos can conveniently access government medical assistance programs.

In Palawan, Malasakit Centers are located at the Ospital ng Palawan in Puerto Princesa City, Southern Palawan Provincial Hospital in Brooke’s Point, and Culion Sanitarium and General Hospital in Cuilion.

Under RA 11463, which Go principally authored and sponsored, qualified public hospitals can host Malasakit Centers to provide quicker and more convenient access to medical assistance for those in need. Since the program’s inception in 2018, 165 Malasakit Centers have been established, benefiting approximately ten million Filipinos, according to the DOH.

On the same day, Go provided additional aid to the poor and indigents in the city and attended the Philippine Elementary School Principals Association (PESPA) 41st Principals Training and Development Program Cum National Board Conference.

“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” underscored Go who is known for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
