Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, Chairperson of the Senate Committees on Youth and on Sports, reaffirmed his commitment to education and sports as he extended support to scholars under the Commission on Higher Education’s (CHED) Tulong Dunong Program on Friday, December 6.
The beneficiaries came from various schools such as Biliran Province State University (BPSU), Northwest Samar State University, Samar Colleges, and Samar State University-Paranas Campus.
The CHED-TDP aims to provide financial assistance to deserving students pursuing their college education. Senator Go emphasized the importance of empowering the youth through access to quality education, reiterating his advocacy to support the next generation of leaders.
“Education is the foundation of our future. By supporting students in their academic journey, we are not only investing in their success but also the progress of our nation,” Go said who continues to support such scholarship programs especially for the poor.
Aside from the scholarship, 106 scholars also received snacks, shirts, pens, vitamins, basketballs, and volleyballs from the Senator.
Among the scholarship beneficiaries is Princess Nicole Erigbuagas, a Bachelor of Secondary Education Major in English student at BPSU. She expressed her gratitude for the senator’s initiative, saying, “Maraming salamat po sa malaking oportunidad na makasali bilang scholar niyo po. Sana po hindi po kayo magbago at maraming salamat.”
“Pangarap ko pong makapagtapos ng pag-aaral at maging guro balang araw para po matulungan ko ang aking pamilya at makabawi sa kanilang sakripisyo. Makakatulong po itong scholarship sa aking pang-araw-araw na gastusin,” Erigbuagas shared.
Aside from his focus on education, Senator Go also turned his attention to sports development in Biliran. Through his collaborative efforts with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), sports equipment and materials were turned over to the local government unit of Kawayan, Biliran, upon the request of Vice Mayor Jake Espina.
The initiative aims to encourage young athletes to participate in sports and maintain a healthy and active lifestyle. The sports equipment, covering disciplines such as taekwondo, tennis, table tennis, badminton, chess, and hurdles, highlights the senator’s advocacy to “get into sports, stay away from drugs.” This is part of his larger effort to promote physical fitness and discipline among the youth.
“Sports play a vital role in shaping the character of our youth. It teaches teamwork, discipline, and perseverance—qualities that are crucial for their personal growth and success in life,” Senator Go stated.
The senator also expressed gratitude to local officials and stakeholders for their support of these initiatives. He reaffirmed his commitment to advancing education and sports opportunities for the Filipino youth, ensuring that no one is left behind in achieving their dreams.
The event not only underscored Senator Go’s dedication to education and sports but also highlighted his continuous efforts to bridge the gap between government resources and grassroots development.
“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” underscored Go who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
