SENATOR Christopher “Bong” Go, on Tuesday, March 12, extended financial assistance to the bereaved families of Lyn Sobretodo, 26, and Renz Aguilar, 22, who lost their lives in a fire incident in Barangay San Nicolas, La Paz District, Iloilo City. The incident occurred on February 18.
“It is with a heavy heart that we extend our deepest sympathies to the families of Lyn and Renz. Bagama’t hindi mapapalitan ng anumang tulong pinansyal ang mga buhay na nawala, ito ay simbolo ng ating suporta at pakikiisa sa mga panahong ito ng pagsubok,” expressed Go.
He stressed the importance of the community and government coming together to support the families in mourning and assist them as they navigate this period of loss and recovery.
Go’s Malasakit Team also conducted relief activity at the San Nicolas covered court for 183 affected residents. The team distributed snacks, water containers, grocery packs, vitamins, masks, shirts, and balls for basketball and volleyball.
In observance of Fire Prevention Month, Go informed the beneficiaries that the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) is undergoing a ten-year modernization program, as mandated by Republic Act No. 11589 or the BFP Modernization Act of 2021. The senator is the primary author and co-sponsor of the law.
He then expressed concern for their well-being and encouraged those with health issues to visit the Malasakit Centers at West Visayas State University Medical Center and Western Visayas Medical Center, both in Iloilo City.
Go is the principal author and sponsor of RA 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which paved the way for establishing 161 Malasakit Centers. These centers are currently operational nationwide and have already assisted more than ten million Filipinos, according to the Department of Health (DOH).
Other Malasakit Centers in the province are at Don Jose S. Monfort Medical Center Extension Hospital in Barotac Nuevo, Western Visayas Sanitarium, and General Hospital in Santa Barbara.
Go also emphasized the significance of Super Health Centers in decongesting hospitals, facilitating early disease detection, and providing basic healthcare services in communities, especially in underserved areas.
In Iloilo, a total of 27 Super Health Centers are funded.
Expressing gratitude, Go acknowledged the efforts of local officials in Iloilo City, including Congresswoman Jamjam Baronda,City Mayor Jerry Treñas, and Vice Mayor Jeffrey Ganzon, among others, for prioritizing their constituents’ interests and providing crucial support, especially in challenging times.
Furthermore, Go also extended his support to various projects in the province, including the construction of multipurpose buildings in Barotac Viejo, the completion of various barangay health stations throughout Iloilo City, and the construction of a multipurpose building in the Iloilo City Public Market.
Other significant initiatives he supported include the concreting or construction of roads in Badiangan, Banate, Carles, Dumangas, Lemery, Miag-ao, and Sara; completion of the barangay health stations in Leon; construction of a flood control system in Balasan; construction of a seawall in Banate; construction of the legislative building complete with facilities in San Dionisio; and improvement of the public parks in Dueñas.
