On Thursday, June 13, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go extended assistance to hundreds of indigent families in Don Salvador Benedicto, Negros Occidental.
The relief activity was held at the municipal gym. A total of 201 indigents received vitamins, basketballs, volleyball, and shirts. Meanwhile, select recipients received shoes and a mobile phone.
The beneficiaries also received financial assistance from the national government. Go expressed his gratitude to the local officials, particularly Congressman Ginggo Valmayor, Governor Eugenio “Bong” Lacson, Vice Governor Jeffrey Ferrer, Mayor Mac dela Cruz, and Vice Mayor Nonoy dela Cruz Jr., among others, for their crucial role in aiding their constituents.
The Senator emphasized that the financial support provided is part of the government’s pro-poor initiatives aimed at helping Filipinos overcome economic challenges.
Aside from the aid distributed, the Senator, who also chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, offered additional assistance to the beneficiaries with health concerns as he advised them to visit the nearby Malasakit Center in Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital in Bacolod City if they may need medical assistance.
The Malasakit Center is a one-stop shop where concerned agencies work hand-in-hand to help poor and indigent patients to reduce their hospital bills to the lowest amount possible.
Go is the principal author and sponsor of Republic Act No. 11463, or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019, which institutionalized the Malasakit Centers program. The Department of Health reports that the Malasakit Center program has already provided aid to more or less ten million Filipinos.
Go who is known as Mr. Malasakit for his compassionate service to Filipinos in need.
