On Friday, July 26, Senator Christopher “Bong” Go carried his relief operations to Barangay Tumana, Marikina City, collaborating with Brgy Captain Ziffred Acheta to provide immediate assistance to the victims of Super Typhoon Carina.
Go’s Malasakit team distributed aid to 150 families, who received essential food packs and shirts. This initiative is part of Go’s series of aid activities underlining his commitment to provide compassionate service to communities in need.
Highlighting the country’s vulnerability to natural disasters, Senator Go also continues to push for Senate Bill No. 188, which he filed, aiming to establish a Department of Disaster Resilience. This proposal would centralize disaster preparedness and response functions, currently spread across various departments.
Furthermore, Go is one of the authors and co-sponsors of SBN 2451, or the Ligtas Pinoy Centers bill. The measure proposes the creation of mandatory evacuation centers in every locality to better prepare communities for future emergencies if enacted into law.
In addition to the support he has already provided, Go, who chairs the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, extended medical assistance to residents facing health issues. He urged them to visit the Malasakit Center in the city, located at the Amang Rodriguez Memorial Medical Center.
Since its launch in 2018 and its institutionalization under Republic Act No. 11463, which Go principally sponsored and authored in 2019, the 166 Malasakit Centers have assisted approximately ten million indigent patients nationwide.
“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” underscored Go.
In addition to Marikina City, Senator Go has supported typhoon-affected communities in various communities, including Hagonoy, Calumpit, and Meycauayan City in Bulacan; several cities within the National Capital Region like Manila, Pasig, Malabon, Caloocan, and Navotas; and the province of Rizal.
