Senator Christopher “Bong” Go, in partnership with the local government of Dinalupihan, Bataan, including Councilor Gary David and Association of Barangay Captains President Jose Salonga, among others, provided support to displaced workers on Saturday, August 17.
Through these efforts, Go reiterated the need to work together to help vulnerable sectors, including displaced workers, overcome current economic challenges towards inclusive recovery.
“May dala rin kaming kaunting tulong sa inyo ngayong araw na ito. Kayo po ang napili na bibigyan ng pansamantalang trabaho ng DOLE na TUPAD program. Iyang programa pong yan ay suportado natin para mabigyan ng pansamantalang trabaho ang ating mga kababayan,” Go highlighted.
Through the partnership of Go and the local officials, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) conducted an orientation for qualified displaced workers, introducing them to the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program. This program aims to offer employment assistance in the coming period.
To better support vulnerable sectors impacted by crises and provide for those in rural areas facing employment challenges, Go filed Senate Bill No. 420 to institutionalize a Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP), which can provide temporary jobs to qualified individuals from low-income rural families, if enacted into law.
To further ease the financial burden on Filipino families, Go also co-authored and co-sponsored SBN 2534, which aims to raise the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide.
The event took place at the Bulwagan ng Bayan where Go’s Malasakit Team distributed snacks, vitamins, facemasks, shirts, basketballs, and volleyballs to 106 displaced workers. There were also select recipients of shoes and mobile phones.
As the chairperson of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, Go also encouraged residents in need of medical assistance to visit the nearest Malasakit Center, located at the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center in Balanga City. These Malasakit Centers, a brainchild of Go, serve as one-stop shops for accessing government medical assistance programs, making healthcare more accessible to indigent Filipinos.
As the principal author and sponsor of the Malasakit Centers Act, Go takes pride in the establishment of 166 Malasakit Centers nationwide, which have served approximately ten million Filipinos to date based on DOH data.
“Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah,” Mr. Malasakit concluded.
