SENATOR Christopher Lawrence “Bong” Go’s Malasakit Team provided various forms of assistance and support to community workers in Iba, Zambales to help them recover from economic challenges they are facing.
“Huwag kayong mawalan ng pag-asa, sapagka’t kami ay narito upang sumuporta at magserbisyo sa inyo. Patuloy tayong magkaisa at magtulungan, sapagkat ang ating layunin ay upang mapabuti ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino. Ang bisyo ko ay magserbisyo, at kasama ninyo ako sa bawat hakbang ng ating pagbangon,” he encouraged in his video message.
In coordination with Provincial Board Member Rundy Ebdane, the relief initiative was held at the Sta. Barbara Covered Court, Iba, Zambales, where 54 displaced workers were given snacks, shirts, masks, vitamins, and basketballs and volleyballs by Go’s Malasakit Team. Select recipients also received shoes from the senator.
Aside from the assistance from Go, the beneficiaries also qualified for the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) through the senator’s support. The TUPAD orientation was held on Thursday, June 20.
Go commended the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) for their proactive efforts in tackling the difficulties faced by displaced and disadvantaged workers.
Additionally, Go has filed Senate Bill No. 420 to establish a short-term employment program for eligible individuals from underprivileged households. This proposed measure would create the Rural Employment Assistance Program (REAP), if enacted, to provide temporary employment opportunities to individuals who qualify as economically disadvantaged, impoverished, displaced, or seasonal workers.
To further ease the financial burden on Filipino families, Go also co-authored and co-sponsored SBN 2534, which aims to raise the daily minimum wage by P100 nationwide.
In his remarks, Go, also known as Mr. Malasakit, encouraged the residents to take advantage of the Malasakit Centers in President Ramon Magsaysay Memorial Hospital in Iba. The Malasakit Center, initiated by Go in 2018, aims to streamline the process of availing medical assistance programs by bringing together concerned government agencies under one roof.
“Huwag ho kayong mahihiyang lumapit sa mga Malasakit Centers. Para po ‘yan sa Pilipino. Nalulungkot po ako tuwing may mga nag-aalangan magpatingin sa doktor dahil natatakot sila sa babayaran sa hospital. Pangalagaan niyo po ang inyong kalusugan at ang Malasakit Center ay handang tumulong sa inyo,” Go ended.
The DOH reported that more or less ten million Filipinos benefitted from the 165 Malasakit Centers nationwide. Go principally authored and sponsored Republic Act No. 11463 or the Malasakit Centers Act of 2019.
Go, the chair of the Senate Committee on Health and Demography, continues to oversee the implementation of the Malasakit Centers Act to provide one-stop shops for medical assistance programs for poor and indigent patients.
As an adopted son of Iba town and of Zambales province, Go reaffirmed his commitment to serve, stating, “Patuloy kaming magseserbisyo sa inyo dahil bisyo ko ang magserbisyo, at ako ay naniniwala na ang serbisyo sa tao ay serbisyo ‘yan sa Panginoon, serbisyo ‘yan kay Allah.”
