KINUMPIRMA ng Department of Health (DOH) na nakapasok na rin sa Filipinas ang P.1 o Brazilian Variant ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

Ayon sa DOH, isang returning overseas Filipino (ROF) mula sa Brazil at taga-Western Visayas ang nakumpirma nilang nagtataglay ng naturang karamdaman.

Ayon sa Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, batay sa mga ebidensya mula sa ilang pag- aaral, ang Brazilian variant ay nakapagpapabilis ng transmission ng virus at may epekto sa kakayahan ng antibodies na nakuha ng isang dati nang dinapuan ng coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).

“According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, there is evidence to suggest that transmissibility and the ability of antibodies generated through previous infection is affected by some mutations of this variant,” pahayag ng DOH.

Kaugnay nito, iniulat ng DOH, na umabot na sa 177 ang mga kaso ng UK variant ng COVID-19 sa bansa matapos may 59 na bagong kaso ng UK variant na natukoy ang Philippine Genome Center (PGC).

Sa 59 bagong kaso, 30 ang local cases, 18 ang Returning OFW, habang ang 11 ay bineberipika pa.

Ang 16 naman sa local cases ay mula sa Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), 10 sa National Capital Region (NCR), dalawa sa Central Luzon, at dalawa sa Calabarzon.

Samantala, ang mga kaso naman ng South African Variant sa bansa ay umabot na sa 90 matapos na madagdagan pa ng 32 karagdagang kaso.

Sa 32 bagong kaso, 21 ang local cases, isa ang returning OFW, habang bineberipika pa ang lokasyon ng 10.

Ang 19 sa local cases ay mula naman sa NCR, isa ang mula sa Cagayan Valley, at isa naman ang mula sa Northern Mindanao.

Kaugnay nito, iniulat ng DOH na ang 85 mutation kabilang na ang E484K at N501Y mutations na natukoy sa Central Visayas ay pinangalanan na bilang P.3 variant.

Ayon sa DOH, ang P.3 Variant ay konektado sa B.1.1.28 lineage kung saan rin kabilang ang P.1 o Brazilian variant.

Sa ngayon ayon sa DOH, mayroon nang 98 na P.3 Variant sa bansa.

“Upon verification with the Phylogenetic Assignment of Named Global Outbreak Lineages (PANGOLIN), the said samples with these mutations have been reassigned to the P.3 variant, belonging to the B.1.1.28 lineage, to which the P.1 variant also belongs. Thirteen (13) additional cases were detected in this batch which bring the total P.3 variant cases in the country to 98,” pahayag pa ng DOH.

Paglilinaw naman ng DOH, hindi dapat na katakutan ang P.3 dahil wala pang ebidensya na nagsasabing may epekto ito sa galaw ng virus.

“The DOH, UP-PGC, and UP-NIH emphasize that at present, the P.3 is NOT identified as a variant of concern as current available data are insufficient to conclude whether the variant will have significant public health implications,” anang DOH.

Kaugnay nito, patuloy ang paalala ng DOH sa publiko na sumunod sa minimum public health standards para mapigilan ang transmission ng mga bagong variant na ito ng COVID-19.

Pinakikilos din ng DOH ang mga lokal na pamahalaan para mapigilan ang pagtaas pa ng mga kaso ng impeksiyon sa kani-kanilang nasasakupan. Ana Rosario Hernandez
