BUDGET NG PSC, GAB SUPORTADO NG SENADO

UMANI ng suporta sa Senado ang paglalaan ng mas malaking pondo sa Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) at Games and Amusements Board (GAB) – dalawang ahensiya na nangangasiwa sa amateur at professional sports — sa 2022 national budget.

Sa isinagawang budget hearing para sa dalawang ahensiya kahapon ng Senate Committee on Finance na pinamumunuan ni Sen. Sonny Angara, ipinahayag ni Senador Bong Go na makatwiran lamang ang pondong hinihingi ng PSC at GAB para maiangat ang katayuan ng atletang Pinoy sa amateur at professional level.

Sa kanyang manifestation sa proposed budget ng PSC na siya mismo ang nag-sponsor, gayundin sa pondo para sa GAB na inisponsoran naman ni Senador Joel Villanueva, iginiit ni Go na sa kabila ng kinakaharap na pandemya ng bansa at tangan ang maliit na budget, napagtagumpayan ng atletang Pinoy ang pagbibigay karangalan sa bansa sa kahanga-hangang kampanya sa international competition, tampok ang kauna-unahang Olympic gold mula kay weightlifter Hidilyn Diaz sa Tokyo Olympics.

“I would like to express my full support to the proposed budgets of the Games and Amusements Board (GAB), and the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC).

“Suportado ko po ang pagbigay ng kaukulang budget sa PSC at GAB. As the chairman of the Senate Committee on Sports and as a passionate advocate for sports development in the country, I believe that investing in sports will not only allow our country to develop more world-class athletes who can bring pride, honor and medals to our country, but will also help us in keeping our youth away from illegal drugs and other harmful vices,” pahayag ni Go.

“Mr. Chair, let me point out that the PSC and GAB need budgetary support from us now, more than ever, as they are finding it difficult to keep our sports program afloat during the COVID-19 pandemic. During the deliberation of last year’s budget, I advocated for the inclusion of P100 million, which was later on increased to P250 million. This was necessary to support our athletes’ preparations for the Olympics and other international events. Similarly, I also supported the allocation of an additional P7.945 million budget for Paralympics preparations. Nagpapasalamat po tayo sa mga kasamahan natin sa suporta para sa mga ito.

“Mr. Chair, nagbunga naman po ng maganda ang ating pagbigay ng sapat na budget sa ating mga atleta. For the first time ever, nagkaroon po tayo ng kauna-unahang gold medal, kasama na po ang dalawang silver medals at isang bronze medal. Napakalaking karangalan po ito para sa ating bansa. Through our efforts, the Philippines became the top performing country in Southeast Asia in the recent Tokyo Olympics.

“Kaya naman po hinihimok ko ang ating mga kasamahan na suportahan ang budget ng PSC at GAB para tuloy-tuloy lang po ang sports development sa ating bansa. For these reasons, I have no objections to the proposed budget, at kung puwede pa pong dagdagan ay dagdagan pa po natin.”

Kapwa hiniling ng GAB at PSC ang mas mataas na budget mula sa nakuha nilang P140M at P207M sa nakalipas na taon.

“We are Very greatful for the support of Sen. Joel Villanueva, a true sports patron and former national player who like our former chair Sen. Bong Go who helped push for a P42M increase last year. Sen Pia Cayetano was also there to support as well as Sen. Migs (Zubiri) and Sen. Tolentino (Francis) who are all sports patrons as well. With the current crop of sports minded and very supportive senators, I am confident that Philippine Sports will go a long way. We will forever be greatful to them,” pahayag ni Mitra.

Sa nadagdag na budget sa nakalipas na taon, natugunan ang pangangailangan ng GAB para makabili ng mga bagong hematoma screening test na malaki ang maitutulong para masuri nang maaga ang pinsala sa utak ng mga boxer at combat sports fighter matapos ang laban.

Sa panig ng PSC, nakatakdang sumabak ang Team Philppines sa apat na major international competitions tulad ng Southeast Asian Games sa Vietnam, Asian Games sa China, Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Championship, at World Youth Games. EDWIN ROLLON
