BEIJING, China–Chinese President Xi Jinping underscores the importance of understanding the diversity of different civilization as a tool for learning and a way to progressive development.

Speaking before thousands of government officials, participants and delegates from all over the country who attended the big event on “Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilization” held recently, President Jinping said the dialogue would deepen the understanding on civilization issue.

He said that this is necessary especially now that the world is moving towards global liberalization. There is increasing information, mounting instability and uncertainties and the global challenges are becoming more of a joint responsibility with other countries.

“We look to a civilization to play their role based on Asian norms, to engage in a dialogue and be on equal footing that would lead to learning through interaction. Our forefathers engaged in the exchange of civilization through many forms of arts painting, sculpture, drama, music, among others in all areas of Asia. The dialogues helped and these have expanded and resulted in exchange of mutual learning with other Asian civilizations,” said President Jinping.

The president said civilization varies from each other and individual differs only in color and complexion.

“We may build on the rich heritage of our forefathers and increase mutual learning to increase civilization. We, Asian countries have undergone similar activities. We  hope to see peace across Asia and upholding it.

“Upholding peace is the responsibility of every country. Where there is no peace, problems arise. We urge you to live in harmony that transcends boundaries and that is possible if we work together to preserve peace,” President Jinping stressed.

He  hopes that Asian  countries would help to improve globalization that would be beneficial to all and we could  combat poverty resulting in happiness to all families. He  encouraged everyone to be open and work together to promote policy, infrastructure, trade and finance and people to people connectivity. He stressed that this way, we can build a better future.

“We need to promote mutual learning of cultures around the world to gain popular support. It is imperative that  we act in the following ways: First, respect each other. If human civilization is reduced to only one model, the world will become stereotyped. There must be no prejudice. We have to understand and we need to promote harmony and civilization. Civilization is rich in diversity,’’ President Jinping said.

He vowed that China is willing to work with other countries to preserve our civilization.

“Second, we need to uphold the civilization of each other in the world by being beautiful in our own way. Civilizations need not crash with one another, but rather, see beauty in each one and be dynamic to flourish together.

“Third, we need to stay open and complement each other’s strength, isolation will result in decline. Civilization flourishes when we exchange in mutual learning with other places. It must be reciprocal, not coercive and imposing or one way. We need to be broadminded and strive to remove all barriers, to learn mutual respect.  People’s best bridge in mutual learning is to eliminate misunderstanding among nations.”

President Jinping also vowed to work with other countries such as non-government organizations, media, to build efforts that will boost mutual learning on civilization.

“Fourth, efforts must be kept alive. Civilization must adapt with the changing times as this is the age that comes up with new ideas and development of civilization.

“In time, China will open its arms to embrace the world and to contribute our wide-range agenda. And with keen perspectives and insights, we will create a better place with other countries,” President Jinping said. B. ABAYGAR
