TULOY ang pagsulong ng chess kahit sa gitna ng pandemya.

Sa pagtutulungan ng Philippine Executive Chess Association (PECA), Rotary Club of Nuvali at Chooks-to-Go,  susulong ang  virtual 4th Chooks-to-Go National Rapid Chess Championships sa Hulyo 9-11 via Tornelo.

Ayon kay PECA president Dr. Fred Paez, ang tatlong araw na torneo ay hindi lamang hakbang para maipagpatuloy ang development ng chess, kundi upang mabigyan ng tamang avenue ang local chess community para mapanatiling kondisyon ang kanilang mga pangangatawan at kaisipan.

“We believe in the Filipino chess players. We know we can really excel in the international stage in both over-the-board and online chess competitions” pahayag ni Paez sa pagbisita sa “Usapang Sports on Air” ng Tabloids Organization in Philippine Sports (TOPS) via Zoom .

“Even our sponsor, Mr.  Ronald Mascarinas of Bounty Agro Ventures, Inc. (BAVI), which produces Chooks-to-Go, believes that Filipino chess players can excel,” sambit ni Paez.

Kasama niyang dumalo sa online forum si Rotary Club of Nuvali president Sam Balboa.

“This is actually our fourth year organizing tge tournament. But unlike the first three editions which were held in Laguna, Muntinlupa and Pasay over the board, we’ll do it now online due to the pandemic,” pahayag ni Balboa.

Kabuuang P500,000 ang papremyo sa torneo na pinangangasiwaan ni Paez, na siya ring team manager ng PCAP All-Filipino champion Laguna Heroes.

“Even compared to cash prizes of regular over-the-board comperitions, this is the biggest in recent years courtesy of Chooks-to-Go. Malaking tulong ito sa mga players natin, lalo ngayong may pandemic,” ayon kay Paez sa weekly sports program na itinataguyod ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC), Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) at Games and Amusements Board (GAB).
