COMPOSTING FACILITIES ITATAYO PARA MAKATIPID SA GASTOS SA PATABA

Magtatatag ang Department of Agriculture (DA) ng composting facility para sa biodegradable wastes, na ang pangunahing layunin ay upang mas maging malusog ang mga lupang pangtaniman at mabawasan ang gastos ng mga magsasaka at local agricultural producers dulot ng mataas na pres­yo ng  chemical ferti­lizers.

Ayon kay Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr., ang naturang proyekto ay popondohan ng  National Organic Agriculture Program, High-Value Crops Development Program, National Rice Program, at National Corn Program.

Ang  composting facility ay isang inisyatibo ng Bureau of Soils and Water Management katuwang ang DA Regional Field Offices.

“The initiative seeks to address challenges faced by marginal farmers, who are increasingly burdened by the high costs of chemical fertilizers.

By converting biodegradable wastes into compost, such a facility will promote the use of organic fertilizers, which we expect will enhance soil fertility, reduce groundwater pollution, and lower production costs,” sabi niya.

Kilala ang compost application sa pagpapalago ng soil organic matter, microbial activity,  nagpapaganda ng water retention, at  pangkalahatang napapabuti ang kalidad ng lupa at crop productivity.

“This approach not only supports sustainable farming practices but also reduces the need for synthetic fertilizers and pesticides, leading to significant cost savings and increased returns on investment for farmers,” sabi ni Laurel.

Upang matiyak  na magiging epektibo ang pagpapatupad nito sinabi ni Laurel na nag-isyu ang Kagawaran ng Harmonized Guidelines on the Establishment of the CFBW. Ma. Luisa Macabuhay-Garcia
