PAGSASAMAHIN ng Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) ang romance at love para sa sports sa isang special love month webisode ng ‘Rise Up, Shape Up‘ ngayong Sabado.
Itatampok sa special episode ang love story nina dating volleyball stars Arlene Apostol at Antonio Ladimo sa kung paano naging cupid matchmaker ang sport sa kanilang 20-year relationship.
Sina Apostol at Ladimo ay kapwa naglaro sa UAAP Volleyball at naging bahagi ng men’s at women’s volleyball teams na sumabak sa Southeast Asian (SEA) Games noong 1980s -1990s.
Kapwa nagningning ang performance ng dalawa sa international games kung saan si Arlene ay naging bahagi ng national volleybelles na nagwagi ng 3 gold medals para sa bansa noong 1985, 1987, at 1993 SEA Games. Ang kanyang winning record ay kinabilangan din ng silver at bronze medal wins sa 1983 at 1991 biennial meet, ayon sa pagkakasunod
Si Antonio naman ay bahagi ng men’s squad na nanalo ng bronze medal sa 1991 Games.
“The episode hopes to show a different picture of sports and its players, by showcasing how it can be fertile ground for blossoming friendship and love instead of just competition,” PSC wika ni Women in Sports Commissioner oversight Celia H. Kiram.
“Aside from the romance, we want our audience to understand that love and passion for sports do create meaningful and life-changing connections. Sports, beyond the competitive spirit in the court or fields, bring people together.” dagdag ni Kiram na tatalakayin ang brief history ng volleyball sa kanyang “K-Isport” segment.
