CREDIT CARD INTEREST CAP 2% PA RIN

NAGPASYA ang Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) na panatilihin ang kasalukuyang ceiling sa credit card transaction fees at monthly interest rates.

Ayon sa BSP, mananatili ang kasalukuyang ceiling sa charges at interest rate base sa umiiral na Circular No. 1098.

Sa ilalim ng circular, ang maximum interest rate o finance charge sa unpaid outstanding credit card balance ay 2 percent per month o 24 percent per year.

Ayon sa BSP, ang maximum add-on rate sa credit card installment loans ay 1 percent habang ang maximum processing fee sa availment ng credit card cash advances ay P200 per transaction.

“The reasonableness of the ceilings shall be subject to further review in January 2023,” sabi ng central bank.

“The BSP will continue to closely monitor evolving domestic and external developments that will impact the state of credit card financing, sustainability of credit card operations and viability of banks/credit card issuers ,” dagdag pa nito.

Magugunitang noong September 2020 ay nagtakda ang Monetary Board ng 24% annual interest rate cap sa lahat ng credit card transactions, na katumbas ng monthly interest na 2%, sa layuning mapagaan ang financial burden sa gitna ng COVID-19 pandemic.
