SA pagdiriwang ng World Blood Donor Day, hinimok ni Senadora Risa Hontiveros ang lahat ng Filipino na boluntaryong magbigay ng dugo dahil sa bumababang suplay nito.

Ayon sa senadora, kailangan nang isalang ang ibang mga pasyente na may matitindi ring sakit.

Maliban kasi sa pagtulong sa mga taong may COVID-19, kailangang masiguro ang suplay ng dugo sa bansa upang matugunan ang mga backlog sa ospital, dahil sa rami ng na-waitlist, na-reschedule, o na-cancel, dahil sa pandemya.

“Bukod sa mga nagpapagaling dahil sa COVID, nangangailangan din ng donated plasma ang mga pasyenteng ooperahan, nangangailangan ng organ transplant, mga may cancer, may anemia, at iba pa.

Sana ay mapagbigyan natin sila dahil matagal na rin silang naghihintay ng atensyong medikal,” ayon kay Hontiveros.

Kinilala naman ni Hontiveros ang pagsisikap ng Department of Health National Voluntary Blood Services Program upang gawing mas madali para sa mga potensyal na donor na mapunan ang suplay.

“May sariling pass na ang mga potential donors lalo na ‘yung nasa ilalim pa rin ng mahigpit na community quarantine. May mga lugar na may free shuttle para sa mga donors. May pre-screening na rin ng mga donors, kaya hindi na nila kailangan pang magpresent ng resulta ng RT-PCR tests,” dagdag ni Hontiveros.

Gayunman, hinimok pa rin ng senador ang DOH na dagdagan ang kanilang information drive upang hikayatin ang mas marami pang mga tao na pumunta sa blood service facilities.

Ayon sa kanya, bukod sa posibleng kawalan ng kamalayan sa ilang mga lugar, marami pa rin ang nagdadalawang isip dahil sa coronavirus.

“Huwag tayong makampante pagdating sa pambansang suplay ng dugo. Anupaman ang level nito ngayon, patuloy tayong magyaya ng mas maraming tao upang magbigay ng dugo. Donations are always needed, especially in the middle of a health emergency. Let us ensure the sustainability of the blood supply,” sabi ni Hontiveros.

Kaya naman nanawagan si Hontiveros sa publiko na magbigay sa pinakamalapit na pasilidad, tulad ng Philippine Red Cross. Ayon sa mga eksperto sa kalusugan, ang isang donasyon ay maaaring makasagip ng tatlong buhay.
