DIGITAL ART PAINTING SLOWLY CAPTURING THE HEARTS OF COLLECTORS

EVEN before pandemic, digital art painting has already occupied a space in the art world. Accep­tance was apparent in Europe and America. During pandemic, online exhibition and virtual galleries enlivened the spaces for digital art pain­ting. Some countries abroad like Italy, galleries were already putting up exhibit on digital painting.

Our country’s pride is Rebie Picazo Ramoso, who exhibited her digital paintings in New York, Florida, San Francisco, Belgium, Rome and Florence, Italy. Ramoso received a recognition as the only Filipino artist featured in “Atlante Dell’ Arte Contemporanea,” Italy’s atlas of contemporary art.

Her paintings were “centered on the human figure, caught in its most intimate gestures and in the most ethereal movements.”    The art world appreciated her works when she had a solo exhibition in Galleria La Pigna in Rome, Italy in 2019.  Art curators and critics in Italy understood her message, culture and background in Psychology in her paintings, entitled “The Stories that Write Us.”

Ramoso said, “I was fortunate enough that they knew my background in Psychology.”  She also added that the exhibition transcend culture.

Since then, she became optimistic about the entry of digital painting in the Philippines. People are slowly accepting it as an art, the tools in computer were her brushes in painting.  Technology was on her side during pandemic.

Finally, digital art was given recognition.  In fact, as early as 2016, she received a special merit award during the 5th Annual All Women Online Art Exhibition from Light, Space and Time Gallery at Florida, USA.

“Malawak ang pwe­deng galawan (the working space is so vast),” said Ramoso, who is a member of KASIBULAN, an all-female artist group committed in using art as a vehicle for promoting women and gender issues and a member of ART VAN, Art Ventures and Advocacy Network.

This year, Ramoso is preparing for two international exhibition: Over the Realms Dreams IX, on 25 June to 3 July 2021 at Museo Bellini, Florence, Italy and Infinity Art, on 17 to 29 July at Ateneo de Madrid, Spain.

On top of being a digital artist, Ramoso is also a co-founder and Chief product Designer of Quarkus, where she leads in product deve­lopment and establishment of partnerships with home-based wor­kers, communities and NGOs

In creating Philippine-made and socially sustainable accessories, “I was thinking of business that could help people,” Ramoso said.

Ramoso concentrated on the three (3) Ps in her product design and development: People, Profit and Planet. One of her advocacies is to recycle clothing materials, since she became conscious with environment, to re­create for her is to make use of materials and apply it in their products.  Pandemic pushed her to design a bag kit of protection, with their own face mask design.

Then, it led to another advocacy during pandemic, an ongoing community project, a social enterprise, hel­ping the farmers bring and dis-tribute agricultural products from Benguet to Metro Manila.

Ramoso said, “You are at your happiest when you give more.”  Her purpose is to live out her own purpose in life, not just as an ar­tist but an artist that can reach out to others and inspire them. Ramoso said, “that I wake up more grateful.” RIZA ZUNIGA
