INUMPISAHAN na ng Department of Health (DOH)- CALABARZON (Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal, Quezon) ang pamamahagi ng maternity kits o “mama kits” sa iba’t ibang provincial health offices sa rehiyon.

Ayon kay Regional Director Eduardo C. Janairo, kabuuang 2,500 kits ang ipinagkaloob ng DOH sa rehiyon kung saan bawat lalawigan ay makakatanggap ng tig-500 mama kits.

“The kit contains the necessary supplies to help provide a clean and safe delivery whether in a hospital or clinic. This is to protect the mother and the baby from neonatal infections that may occur,” ani Janairo.

“Napakaimportante ang clean delivery – including clean hands, clean delivery surface, clean cord cutting and tying, proper cord care, and bathing – this is a key intervention for reducing infections in newborns,” aniya pa.

Nabatid na ang mama kit ay naglalaman ng cotton cloth (baby wrapper), nail cutter, bar soap, face towel, toothpaste at toothbrush, cotton balls, isopropyl alcohol, maternity pads, bathroom tissue, disposable umbilical cord clamp, sterile surgical gloves, sterile surgical blade para sa cord cutting, disposable underpants at timba na may takip.

“They are still newborns and mothers who dies from infections soon after birth, that is why skilled attendant and adequate hygiene in our birthing facilities are necessary to address this,” ayon pa kay Janairo.

That is why we have been providing adequate trainings for health care workers and improving health services at the primary care level to safeguard their health and welfare,” aniya pa.
