Mr. Taxman, the Bureau of Internal Revenue’s public service program over AM radio station DWIZ, celebrates its 16th year on air with February billed as 16th Anniversary Month.
The month-long celebration marks its high point with a special broadcast on Saturday, Feb. 29, highlighted by the on-air participation of some BIR officers, said Mr. Taxman Gerry Flores, veteran broadcaster.
Flores has been the program host since Mr. Taxman was launched on Feb. 14, 2004. Cely Ortega Bueno is co-host. It has aired continuously on the same time slot of 10 to 11 a.m. every Saturday.
The radio program was initiated during the term of former revenue commissioner Guillermo Parayno with the assistance of then-Makati regional director Anselmo Adriano and Maria Nieva Guerrero. The program format has remained the same through the years, with top BIR officials guesting to give briefings to listeners on the bureau’s current programs and projects.
The program seeks to promote the BIR’s objectives of further strengthening tax collection through tax information campaigns.
Guesting during a recent broadcast, Pasig Revenue District Office officials talked about gains being made in the district in the implementation of the BIR’s tax mapping program.
The tax mapping effort is done at the barangay level, with 30 barangay having been visited monthly and given seminars as part of the bureau’s tax compliance verification drive, said RDO Pasig Group Supervisor Carla Vitas. With her at the DWIZ studio was BIR district officer Regina Caling.
DWIZ is operated by Aliw Broadcasting Corporation, headed by its chairman and president, D. Edgard A. Cabangon. Established in May 1991, it is a member of the ALC Group of companies founded by Ambassador Antonio L. Cabangon Chua.
