KINUMPIRMA ng isang opisyal ng Department of Health (DOH) na posibleng mapalawig pa ang umiiral na enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) sa National Capital Region (NCR) dahil sa patuloy pang pagtaas ng mga naitatalang kaso ng COVID-19 sa rehiyon.
Ayon kay Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire, palaging nandiyan ang posibilidad ng pagpapalawig ng ECQ dahil base sa kanilang projections, kahit na umiiral na ang dalawang linggong hard lockdown ay patuloy pa ring tataas ang mga maitatalang COVID-19 cases.
“Nandiyan lagi ‘yung posibilidad because based on our projections, kahit magkaroon tayo ng dalawang linggong ECQ, patuloy pong tataas ang mga kaso natin,” paliwanag ni Vergeire, sa panayam sa telebisyon.
“Ang atin po lang objective for this ECQ is for us to prepare the system para mas ma-manage natin itong ganitong klaseng sitwasyon,” aniya pa.
Nilinaw naman ni Vergeire na ito’y kailangan pa ring talakayin ng Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF).
“As to the extension of ECQ, of course, ito po ay pag-uusapan sa IATF,” aniya pa.
Ang Metro Manila ay kasalukuyang nakasailalim sa ECQ simula Agosto 6 hanggang 20 upang mapigilan ang pagkalat ng mga kaso ng COVID-19, partikular na ang Delta variant nito.
Gayunman, sinabi ni Vergeire na hindi lamang ang lockdown ang dapat na asahan, kundi kailangan din magsagawa ng iba pang mga pamamaraan upang mapigilan ang pagkalat pa ng virus.
“But based on what’s happening right now at ang patuloy na pagtaas ng kaso, hindi lang po ang lockdown ang dapat asahan natin and government is gearing towards that,” aniya.
“Kailangan nating paigtingin ‘yung iba pa nating ginagawa sa response so that economically hindi rin tayo masyadong ma-burden,” dagdag pa ni Vergeire. “So pag-uusapan ho lahat ‘yan sa IATF.”
