IT has been horrendous months since the Philippines was placed into quarantine, be it Enhanced, General or Modified, due to the threat of the Covid19 pandemic.  This situation has put the mobility and the way of life far different from what it was used to be for us worldwide.

The education sector is not spared as we experience a lot of struggles and challenges on the new normal delivery of education.  During this challenging moment, there were speculations whether classes and education will still go on.  People around the world specially the parents and guardians of learners are having a hard time trying to balance whether they will send their children in school to study despite of the danger of this unseen adversary. Looking at the positive side of life, the Department of Education has devised a Basic Education Learning Continuity Plan for education to continue using the different modalities such as face-to-face Learning, Modular Distance Learning, and Blended Learning, among others.

Education then continues.  However, due to the risk of the pandemic, learners continued learning but at their own pace and at their own homes. But there are questions arising whether education will happen and learning will really take place.  Is education really possible in this difficult time?  Learning is not confined in the four corners of the classroom.  Parents are child’s first teachers and the family is the primary training ground for character development. An African proverb says, “It takes a village to raise a child.”  This axiom speaks a lot of the partnership among the teachers, parents and community in general.  Educating the child is not a lone duty and obligation of the teachers.  It is and must be a collaborative effort of the people around the child.

This is really challenging but embracing this with positivity, believing and hoping that it will be over very soon is the best attitude that we could and must have.  We cannot solve a problem by doing nothing and by just letting it pass by.  After all, at the end of the day, it is not how much we have done but how much we have learned.  Gaining experience and learning from our experiences matter.

We are experiencing a lot of challenges nowadays brought not only by the pandemic but also by the natural calamities. Economically speaking, many if not all people are striving to survive because a lot of people turn out to be jobless. On the other hand, we must remain steadfast, resilient, grateful and positive in this phase while we avoid to be “Covid-19-positive.”

It is gratifying to see that education continues and we embrace this change. We look forward for a better tomorrow as we continue our positive mindset in life.
