The environment awareness and attitudes on solid waste management practices of the pupils of Ilagan West District was studied for protection of the community.

The research design used was the descriptive statistics and normative survey method to randomly selected schools of Ilagan West District.   Majority of the respondents were 10-11 years old and female dominated and almost all of them were first child. Almost all their parents finished elementary education. They were farmers and housekeepers earning a monthly ranging P3,000-P6,000.

Loss of biodiversity; ozone layers depletion; air pollution; pollution in land; climate change effect; and climate change causes were rated “aware”. Waste reduction; waste recycling; and waste reuse were rated “moderately agree”. They were responsive to the environmental problems like the loss of biodiversity. They were aware of the effect of the ozone layer reduction to their health. Besides, they were conscious of the effect of pollution to air, land and people’s health. The pupils have shown good attitudes on solid waste management practices. And there was no significant relationship between occupation of father and mother, monthly income and ordinal position in the family on solid waste management practices. But there was a significant relationship between the pupils’ age, gender, educational attainment of father and mother and environmental awareness and attitudes on solid waste management practices.

Based from the conclusions of the study, it could be recommended that pupils are to be encouraged to participate in all activities adopting climate change and global warming. The administrators shouls device an enhancing program on how teachers and pupils become responsive on the environmental problems such as loss of biodiversity; ozone layer depletion; pollution in air; pollution on land; climate change effect; and causes. The teachers should improve the awareness and attitudes of the pupils on solid waste management practices along waste reduction; waste recycling and waste reuse. Modern approach in improving the awareness and attitudes of the pupils on solid waste management practices along waste reduction, waste recycling and waste reuse should be introduced.

The Administrators should look into possible ways and means to improve the maintenance and rehabilitation of equipment used in ecological solid waste management and climate change. Parents should learn that their cooperation would enhance the greeting effort of the school by guiding their children.

The government administration should implement and carry out policies and programs for the conservation of the environment and at the same time sound solid waste management practice.

The community should cooperate in the implementation of the policies for the success of them program and for healthier, greener, and garbage free community. The health sector should be aware with the different effects of the environmental problems in the health of human beings in order to come up with a sound program that will protect them from any harmful diseases. And research of this kind should be conducted to enrich the findings of this study.
