UMAABOT na sa $100 milyon ang nalugi sa social media giant na Facebook dahil sa malawakang outage.

Ito ang kinumpirma ng Facebook matapos makabalik online ang kanilang platforms, kabilang na ang Instagram at Whatsapp.

Bumagsak din ng 4.9% ang stocks ng FB habang nalagasan ng halos $7 bilyon ang yaman ni Facebook Chairman at CEO Mark Zuckerberg.

Nilinaw ng Facebook na configuration change sa kanilang routers at hindi tangkang pag-hack ang dahilan ng major outage.

Sinasabi naman ng Filipino netizens na posibleng nabulunan ang system ng Facebook maging ang Instagram at WhatsApp na pawang pagmamay-ari nito dahil sa rami ng bukas at ipinapaskil na social at political propaganda lalo na at pumapasok na ang Pilipinas sa election period.

Nagulantang ang netizens nang hindi na nila mabuksan o maka-pag post sa kanilang mga Facebook, Instagram at WhatsApp account nitong Oktubre 4.

‘Blank screen’ lang ang lumabas sa cellphone ng ilang users at sudden error or ‘loading’ naman o matagal magbukas ang app na naranasan ng ibang users sa loob ng ilang oras.

Posible umanong pina-flooding ng farm operators at kanilang mga trolls ang social media para isulong ang kandidatura ng kanilang mga amo o siraan naman ang kanilang mga katunggali .

Naging headlines na rin ang pagkawala ng Facebook sa maraming mga major news sites sa ibang bansa. At ayon sa ilang reports, milyon-milyon na ang apektadong mga user nito.

Magugunitang nabili ng Facebook ang Instagram noong 2012 at noong 2014 naman ay nabili rin nito ang Whatsapp. Sinasabing nakaranas din ng outages ang Washington at Paris base sa outage tracker na Downdetector.

Sa pahayag sa Twitter, humingi ng paumanhin ang Facebook. Sabi nila, alam nila na may mga tao na may problema sa pag-access sa kanilang mga apps. Inaayos na aniya nila ang issue at umaasa na babalik ang lahat sa normal sa lalong madaling panahon.

Sa naging paliwanag ng FB Company…someone at Facebook caused an update to be made to the company’s Border Gateway Protocol (BGP) records. BGP is a mechanism by which Internet service providers of the world share information about which providers are responsible for routing Internet traffic to which specific groups of Internet addresses.

“In simpler terms, sometime this morning Facebook took away the map telling the world’s computers how to find its various online properties. As a result, when one types Facebook.com into a web browser, the browser has no idea where to find Facebook.com, and so returns an error page.”
