BUMABA ang Philippine manufacturing output sa ika-5 sunod na buwan noong Abril dahil sa double-digit declines sa pitong industry groups, ayon sa datos na ipinalabas ng Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).
Sa preliminary results ng Monthly Integrated Survey of Selected Industries (MISSI) ng PSA, ang factory output o ang Volume of Production Index (VoPI) ay bumaba ng 14.0 percent noong Abril.
“This pales in comparison with the 21% growth recorded in April 2018, and 9.5 percent in March this year,” sabi ng PSA.
“The decrease in VoPI in April 2019 was influenced by the downward movements noted in 11 major industry groups of which seven industry groups registered two-digit annual declines in VoPI,” ayon pa sa ahensiya.
Kabilang sa mga grupo na nagtala ng pagbaba ay ang tobacco products (-29.2 percent), leather (-25.5 percent), petroleum prod-ucts (-24.3 percent), food manufacturing (-20.6 percent), furniture and fixtures (-19.6 percent), basic metals (-16.2 percent) at transport equipment (-11.8 percent).
Pagdating sa value, ang value of production index (VaPI) ay bumaba ng 10.8% noong April, kumpara sa 21.8% growth sa ka-parehong panahon noong nakaraang taon.
Ang pagbaba ay pinangunahan ng double-digit annual declines sa tobacco production (-25.4 percent), petroleum products (25.1 percent), leather products (-24.0 percent), food manufacturing (-23.9 percent) at basic metals (-23.0 percent).
Sa kabila nito ay kumpiyansa ang National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) na gaganda ang factory output sa mga darating na buwan sa likod ng pagtaas ng domestic demand.
“Notwithstanding, manufacturing output is expected to recover supported by improved domestic demand in the coming months,” ani Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Ernesto Pernia.
