SINABI ni Philippine Lawn Tennis Association (Philta) president Atty. Tony Cabletas na bibigyan niya ng mahabang foreign training exposure ang mga Pinoy para mahasa at gumaling at makasabay sa kanilang foreign counterparts at bilang paghahanda na rin sa darating na Southeast Asian Games na gaganapin sa bansa.
Ayon kay Cabletas, hindi masusukat ang galing ng player kung sa local tournaments lang maglalaro.
“You cannot gauge the skills of the player if he confines his competition locally. He has to go outside and play in high level tournaments,” sabi ni Cabletas matapos dumating mula Melbourne kung saan ginawa ang prestihiyosong Australian Open na nilahukan ng mga sikat at bigating tennis play-ers sa mundo.
Nakipag-usap at nakipagtalastasan din si Cabletas sa kanyang Australian counterparts at foreign leaders at pinaalam niya sa kanila ang tungkol sa kanyang grassroots programs sa Pinas.
“I met my foreign counterparts and intensively discussed with them pertinent matters about tennis,” sabi ni Cabletas na dumalo rin sa International Tennis Federation meeting sa United States.
Balak ni Cabletas na ipadala ang mga Pinoy sa China, Japan at Korea. “Our Asian counterparts trained and competed overseas. It is proper and logi-cal to train in these countries. They are the best tennis players in Asia,” pahayag ni Cabletas.
