Pension fund intensifies digital infrastructure
Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) takes another leap in its digital transformation as it launched today the GSIS Digital ID, which also coincides with its 87th anniversary, with the theme, “GSIS @87: Kabalikat sa Bagong Pilipinas”.
This enhancement marks a significant step in its efforts to automate processes, streamline services and amplify the customer service experience for its members and pensioners.
“The GSIS continuously strives to stay ahead and make it safer and more convenient for government workers to transact. We are not just launching a digital ID — this signals a new era where our members and pensioners can fully access our services easily through their smartphones,” said GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso.
As of December 2023, 97% of GSIS loan transactions were processed electronically through kiosks and the GSIS Touch mobile app, with only 3% handled over-the-counter. The shift in digitization demonstrates the GSIS’s commitment to enhance convenience, reliability, and accessibility for its members, pensioners, and stakeholders.
Currently, 42% of organizations around the globe are actively integrating digital ID technologies in their systems and 31% are in the early stages of implementation.
“The launch of the GSIS Digital ID aligns with the Bagong Pilipinas Strategy of the administration, with the GSIS as a key partner in implementing robust measures to develop innovative solutions, driving progress and sustainable development for our country,” added Veloso.
In April 2024, the GSIS issued Memorandum Circular No. 054, series of 2024 on the discontinuance on the production of the Unified Multipurpose Identification (UMID) cards and eCards. Existing UMID and eCard users will continue to receive their benefits without interruption and new enrollees will receive ATM cards from their chosen bank (Land Bank or Union Bank) within five workdays, which will be used for crediting benefits, loan proceeds and pensions.
The GSIS Digital ID is a membership ID integrated into the GSIS Touch mobile app wherein members and pensioners already registered and enrolled in the GSIS Touch can access their digital ID. It is used for identity authentication and designed to improve efficiency and security of services, reduce fraud, and enhance access to the GSIS Touch. This digital footprint aims to make transformation in the GSIS more safe and secure.
