TINALAKAY kahapon sa Senate panel ang mga panukala na naglalayong pagkalooban ng libreng on-site living quarters ang public school teachers sa malalayong lugar upang mabawasan ang kanilang gastusin sa transportasyon.
Naghain sina Senators Grace Poe at Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. ng magkahiwalay na panukala na nag-aatas sa pamahalaan na sagutin ang board and lodging expenses ng mga public school teacher upang matulungan silang makatipid sa oras at enerhiya.
“Marami po doon [sa mga teachers] ang natutulog sa classrooms at wala po talaga silang matirahan,” wika ni Senate Committee on Urban Planning, Housing and Resettlement chair Francis Tolentino sa isang hybrid hearing.
“Subsidizing their housing will not only alleviate their financial difficulties, it will also attract more teachers to enter public service,” sabi pa niya.
Sinuportahan ni Housing Secretary Eduardo Del Rosario ang mga panukala at sinabing magkakaloob din ito ng seguridad sa mga faculty member.
“This will resolve everything else: security, transportation for teachers because the living quarters will be constructed inside the campus of Department of Education (DepEd) schools,” ani Del Rosario.
“Just like the construction of classrooms, the living facilities should be integrated in the budget of DepEd so that… it will not require resources from other agencies,” dagdag pa niya.
