(Ibang-iba ang Pinoy) JORGE CASTRO, JOURNALIST BY HEART

Sa buong clan ng mga Castro, Ferrer, Balansaybat Casillan: Birthday ko po ngayong August 22

I don’t want to have a luxurious birthday celebration but my wife won’t agree, at lagi namang siya ang nasusunod (hayst!), pero hindi kami magse-celebrate sa labas. Magluluto lang siya ng ramen, nag-iimbita at voila! Party! Party!

Ise-celebrate daw namin ang aking birthday week kaya may weekend getaway kami. I told her I was exhausted but she insisted at wala akong magawa kaya go with the flow na lang.

I was born under the Zodiac sign of Leo which symbolizes the Lion, King of the jungle, strong, has a little intelligence, and quite handsome too (hehe!) But what I value most is the welfare of the poor like me and most of all my faith in the Lord who created us all and the entire Solar System.

In my belief, without God, the 8 planets orbiting the earth would have collided long ago. Our planet Earth is the third closest to the King Sun. And Mercury is the planet closest to the Sun. So don’t expect any living thing in Mercury.

I was born after World War ll so I am a baby boomer. I used to work at the Manila Bulletin and its tabloid, Tempo as a reporter and correspondent. I have the widest area of coverage among my fellow reporters in Manila Bulletin.

The late Ruther Batuigas assigned me to cover the Rizal Provincial Fiscals Office and the LLDA in Pasig.

I still have classmates who are active as reporters or editors in different media outlets in Manila and here in the USA like Joseph Lariosa and Fred Gabot, editor of Bulletin USA, Remia Bibit, formerly of Manila Times and Nenet Villafania of Pilipino Mirror to name a few.

Kahit matagal na ako sa US at paminsan-minsan na lamang ako umuuwi, I’m always a journalist by heart.
