MAY kabuuang $2.80 billion na public sector foreign loans sa second quarter ng 2021 ang inaprubahan ng Monetary Board ng Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP).

Gayunman, sinabi ng BSP na ang inaprubahang foreign borrowings ay mas mababa ng 59% kumpara sa $6.84 billion na hiniram sa kaparehong panahon noong 2020.

Ayon sa BSP, ang external loans ng pamahalaan sa second quarter ay kinabibilangan ng isang euro-denominated bond issuance na nagkakahalaga ng  €2.10 billion, at isang project loan na nagkakahalaga ng $300 million.

“These foreign borrowings will fund the: (a) national government’s general financing requirements (€2.10 billion); and (b) COVID-19 pandemic response, covering vaccine procurement and distribution ($300 million),” anang central bank.

Sa ilalim ng Section 20, Article VII ng 1987 Constitution ng Republic of the Philippines, kailangan ang prior approval ng  BSP, sa pamamagitan ng Monetary Board nito, para sa lahat ng foreign loans na papasukin  o gagarantiyahan ng Republic of the Philippines.
