NAGLAAN ang telecom giant IPS Inc. ng Japan ng karagdagang USD100 million (P5.6 billion) na bagong investments sa Pilipinas para sa 2023 hanggang 2024, ayon kay Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) Secretary Ivan John Uy.
Lumagda sina Uy at IPS chief executive officer Koji Miyashita sa isang memorandum of support sa isang seremonya na idinaos sa Tokyo noong Aug. 25 upang palawakin ang kapasidad ng isang modern at secure gateway para sa Pilipinas sa iba pa sa mundo via Japan.
“This will likewise ensure unhampered data connectivity via the Eastern Seaboard away from the highly contested South China Sea,” sabi ni Uy sa isang news release noong weekend.
Sa iba pang kaganapan, nag-alok ang InfiniVAN Inc., isang IPS affiliate sa Pilipinas, ng isa pang tinatayang investment na P4 billion sa ilalim ng public-private partnership arrangement na magpapabilis sa deployment at connectivity ng National Broadband Plan, na kilala rin bilang Broadband ng Masa Program (BBMP).
Ang proposal ay kasalukuyang pinag-aaralan ng DICT.
Ikinatuwa ni Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center executive director Alexander Ramos ang partnership sa IPS at InfiniVAN na testamento sa lumalawak na importansiya ng bansa sa global digital landscape.
“The investment aligns seamlessly with the country’s Digital Transformation Strategy, which seeks to leverage technology for inclusive growth and progress,” sabi ni Ramos, na dumalo rin sa Tokyo signing.
