MAHIGIT sa 4.1 million na international tourists ang bumista sa bansa sa unang anim na buwan ng taon, mas mataas ng 11.4 percent kumpara sa kaparehong panahon noong 2018, ayon sa Department of Tourism (DOT).
Noong Hunyo, ang tourist arrivals ay tumaas ng 21.4 percent sa 643,780 laban sa 530,267 noong Hunyo 2018.
Sinabi ni Tourism Secretary Bernadette Romulo-Puyat na ang pagtaas ay bunga ng bagong transportation infrastructure.
“Seven years ago, it took the entire year to reach 4 million tourists. The Philippine tourism industry has indeed come a long way with better and increased connectivity. New, rehabilitated and expanded airports have contributed much to this growth,” ani Puyat.
Ang South Korea pa rin ang top source ng mga turista, sumusunod ang China, United States, Japan at Taiwan.
Aniya, ang pagsasara sa Boracay ay ‘blessing in disguise’.
“By expanding our portfolio of tourism products and by developing and promoting our lesser-known but emerging destinations, we have attracted a large yet diverse set of foreign travelers and have sus-tained our growth in the highly-competitive South East Asian region,” dagdag ni Puyat.
